GSABA Government Affairs Update

By Kristi Sutterfield, Executive Vice President
Greater San Antonio Builders Association

City of San Antonio Development Services Department Update and Handouts:

Michael Shannon and I speak every week and he said that the virtual inspections are going well and it is DSD’s goal to increase the number of virtual inspections going forward.

The adoption of the 2021 Codes will most likely be delayed until the first quarter of 2021.  We will co-host code classes with the City of San Antonio.

If you have any issues that you would like the Government Affairs team to champion in the City of San Antonio, please let us know.

City of Cibolo Update:

Your GSABA Government Affairs Leadership Team (Tim Pruski/Bella Vista; Joe Leos/DR Horton; Shad Schmid/Armadillo and Kristi/GSABA) have a call with Rudy Klein and the Cibolo City Manager tomorrow, Thursday, May 7th at 3:30pm.  Feedback received to date from active Builders in Cibolo is outlined below.

  • Permits are taking anywhere from 23 to 35+ days
  • Inspections are taking 4 days to 9 days
  • Builders can submit electronically but approvals/denials are not electronic
  • Cibolo lost one of their Inspectors causing additional delays
  • There are a few issues with the siding, window and flashing requirements

We will press the City of Cibolo on our call tomorrow to hire a third party inspection company. We will also suggest that the Inspector leave a red or green card at the property after an inspection or a re-inspection as most data is entered after hours resulting in the delay of one day.

If you are building in Cibolo and experiencing any issues, please let me know before 3:30pm on May 7th, if possible.

City Council Agendas

We monitor City Council Agendas in the Cities you are working in.  Please find the City Council Agendas for San Antonio as well as agendas (if available) for the week of May 4 and May 11th from the other Cities in our area.  If you are having an issues in any City in GSABA’s 22 County area, please let us know.  We are here to help in any way.

FEMA Region 6 Update

FEMA is hosting a virtual flood insurance workshop to review flood map changes and new flood insurance rates.  Here is an invitation to attend a virtual meeting on May 19th or 20th from 10am to noon.

On behalf of President Jeff Czar and the leadership team/staff, thank you for your continued support of GSABA.  Please let us know if we can help you in any way.

Warm regards,

Kristi Sutterfield
